Originally I had this grand idea of staying at
Osa Mariposa and reporting on their menu. Logistical economics prevented me from this route. There's always next time. When not searching out veg friendly establishments, I thrived on the hunt for frutas y vegetables.

Licuado & Jugos stands abound just about everywhere. It is a cheap way to get a hefty serving of fruits. Rustic vegan cookies round out the snack.

On the beach front: In Playa del Carmen I had this Yucatan fried rice from Media Luna, just the right amount of nose run. (Ave 5/calle 12).
El Vegetarino has closed, and the irony is not lost on me that a carniceria has opened in its place.
- Although my guide book claims otherwise, the restaurant at Diamante K in Tulum is not vegetarian.

Herbs for just about anything and everything at Mercado 23 in downtown Cancun. This is the
other Cancun, far from the hawkers and tourists. Where they sell lucha libre masks, religious items, and pinata candy.

Street food outside of Uxmal: Tostada w/ frijoles and red sauce, jicama & orange w/ lime and spices.

Grains, beans, and such at Mercado 23.

There's always salad. A nice man in a park gave me a copy of Coco Loco, a sort of Edible Quintana Roo. Where I learned that Yucatan cuisine is quite different from the rest of Mexico due to European influence and Mayan roots. Where I also read about mouth watering sauces and spices that have me seriously anticipating Terry Hope Romero's
Vegan Latina.
