Aside from Edgar Allan Poe's house, Horizon's was the highlight of our day trip. Lovely decor, efficient staff, and the passion was apparent on our plates. Perhaps this is because a couple created Horizons?
For dessert: Saffron Creme Brulee w/ pistachio biscotti. Based on coconut milk and agave, this brulee cracks just like the traditional stuff. I love biscotti and was psyched to have them sans egg. Heavenly flavor and texture, this was a top 10 dessert!
The Winter Plate: Seitan & Cauliflower terrine with brussel sprouts, parsnips, & greens. I am going to state that this is hands down the Best seitan I've ever had. Melt in your mouth good.Flashback to the East Village, Fs and I enjoyed the vegetable stylings of Dirt Candy. Vegetarian restaurant alumni Amanda Cohen created Dirt Candy in honor of the sun's ability to transform energy into edible form (vegetables). I can dig it. The first question we were asked was, "are you vegan?" The menu does feature dairy, but they are willing & able to veganize.
Popcorn Pudding w/ hazelnut caramel corn. Sublime flavors extracted from actual popcorn, soymilk, and sugar. Topped with luscious caramel and partnered up with sweet/salty popcorn.
